Local News in Brief : No Word Yet on Lease of Parkland for Arts
- Share via
The Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Commission postponed a decision Friday on leasing part of Sepulveda Basin to the San Fernando Valley Cultural Foundation for an arts complex.
Although unanimously expressing support for the plan to build a 2,500-seat theater, performance glen, museum and restaurant near the corner of Victory and Balboa boulevards, commissioners said they felt the lease contract did not adequately protect the city.
Commissioner Dennis Luna was appointed to work with the Cultural Foundation to work out safeguards, such as a construction bond, for the project. The board will reconsider the contract Nov. 21.
At a public hearing before the board Friday, two people opposed the project, urging the commission to leave Sepulveda Basin undeveloped.
