For Angels, a Truly Spectacular Season

Share

I have been an Angels fan since my family and I rattled around with only a few hundred other fans in the unfriendly confines of Chavez Ravine. In those 26 years, there have been some good times and bad times, but this year was something else.

Thank you for this season, it was truly spectacular. So many great plays, so many terrific games. Reggie’s three-home run game was a sensation, the come-from-behind games, the night we scored eight runs in the ninth to beat the Tigers, the Sunday afternoon games that were almost unbeatable, and yet the most important Sunday game. One strike away, we came up short.

Maybe someone up there doesn’t like us, perhaps we were too presumptuous to name our team the Angels. Perhaps Mauch went once too often with statistics instead of his heart--that Sunday’s game was Witt’s to win or lose.

No matter, there will be another year for the Angels. But it does hurt just a little for the timing was so right this year because so many of our team may not be with us next year.

A final note. I must say to Reggie Jackson, you brought the spark that was missing so long in the Angels, whether it was a home run, a strikeout or that little dance you do, you are something special! We will really miss you. Wherever you go, whatever you do, we wish you good luck and Godspeed.
