Share

Paul Caligiuri of UCLA and John Kerr of Duke, two of the leading candidates for the Hermann Award as college soccer’s best player, will go head-to-head Sunday at 2 p.m. when the defending NCAA champion Bruins play Duke in the final game of the UCLA-Metropolitan Life Pacific tournament at UCLA.

The game matches Caligiuri, one of the top defenders in the nation, against Kerr, the leading scorer in the Atlantic Coast Conference. A player from Duke has won the Hermann Award three of the last four years, and Caligiuri is trying to become the first West Coast player to win it since 1968.

The tournament will begin today with Cal State Los Angeles playing Duke, 11-4-1 and ranked seventh in the nation, at noon, followed by the fourth-ranked Bruins (11-0-5) playing against New Mexico at 2 p.m.
