Keen Southeast Asian Insights

Share

I note that Molyda Szymusiak’s “The Stones Cry Out” is being considered for the Los Angeles Times’ 1986 Book Prize in biography (The Book Review, Oct. 5).

I teach social studies at Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra. A number of my students are from Southeast Asia. Szymusiak’s book furnishes keen insights into the suffering and mistreatment many of them have experienced, particularly those from Cambodia.

“The Stones Cry Out” not only has helped me to better understand my students, but it has had a tremendous personal impact. I would hope The Times would give every possible consideration to it in its selection of the 1986 Biography of the Year.
