The county Sheriff’s Department will expand its anti-drug education program next month to to include about 1,140 sixth-grade students in Carson.

At a press conference in Carson last week, Sheriff Sherman Block said that previous law-enforcement efforts to cut the drug supply have failed, and that it is incumbent on the department to do more to educate youngsters about narcotics.

Earlier this year, Lawndale became the first city in the county to participate with the Sheriff’s Department in Operation SANE, a drug-awareness program for elementary school children.
