A Vote for Prop. D
The League of Women Voters of San Diego supports Proposition D. This measure--the first vote required under the provisions of the Managed Growth Initiative (1985’s Proposition A) passed last November--represents creative and positive land-use planning.
Proposition D is a way for us to acquire a major addition to Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and gain beautiful open space for all San Diegans to enjoy. Its passage would make possible a land exchange between the city and a private landowner, giving the city $1 million plus 291 acres to be dedicated as parkland in exchange for 166 city-owned acres near Interstate 5 to be used for an industrial park.
The citizens groups such as the league that supported Proposition A also support Proposition D. No official argument against it has been filed. However, this parkland won’t become a reality unless we remember to vote Tuesday and to vote “Yes” on Proposition D.
