Fiat may have made an offer for control of Alfa.

According to unidentified sources, Fiat has offered to pay about $714 million to acquire a majority stake in the debt-ridden luxury car maker. The sources said the offer was made over the weekend to the state holding company Istituto per la Ricostruzione Italiana and its Finmeccanica subsidiary, which together own Alfa Romeo.
