An ousted Kiowa Indian tribal chairman and six followers surrendered to Bureau of Indian Affairs police officers who surrounded a Methodist church in Hog Creek, Okla., where they gathered. Herschel (Ace) Sahmaunt and 15 supporters seized control of the Kiowa Indian Tribal Complex at Carnegie last Thursday, protesting a scheduled tribal election. The Indians ended their siege Saturday after the election was stopped because of misprinted ballots. Sahmaunt was elected tribal chairman in June but the results were thrown out because of voting irregularities.
