Democratic Sen. Dale Bumpers easily won a third term, and Gov. Bill Clinton defeated former GOP Gov. Frank White for the second time in three meetings.

Democrat Clinton, 40, had defeated White in 1980, but lost to him in 1982. For the first time since Reconstruction, the governor’s term will be for four years.

Bumpers, 61, beat former U.S. Atty. Asa Hutchinson, 35, who was making his first run for public statewide office.
