Now that Playgirl’s dropping male frontal nudity, we thought we’d offer a nostalgic wrap-up of the stars who have . . . you know . . . during the magazine’s 13 years.

Most models have been unknowns, according to Editor-in-Chief Nancie S. Martin: “Many males stars seem to regard their genitals as their most precious commodity.” Those who’ve shared the, uh, wealth, over the years have included Jim Brown, Don Stroud, George Maharis, Fabian, the late Christopher George, Sly Stallone (via stills from a soft-core video romp) and “General Hospital’s” Steve Bond (“He posed before he was anybody”).

Why no more full exposure?

“Studies bear me out that female sexuality differs from male sexuality. Men may refer to themselves as ‘breast men’ or ‘leg men’--which sounds as if they’re buying a package of chicken--but women seem to consider the entire man. But they also seem to want a sense of mystery about him.

“So our future centerfolds will be done with some subtlety. Readers won’t zoom in on something in the center of the page. They’ll check out the whole man--well, except for one thing. . . .”
