UCSD Women Advance to Soccer Semifinals

UC San Diego advanced to next weekend’s NCAA Division III women’s soccer semifinals with a 1-0 overtime victory over of St. Mary’s (Winona, Minn.) in the Western Regionals Sunday.

UCSD (15-4-4), the fifth ranked team, will play third-ranked Rochester (N.Y.) in the semifinal round at Cortland, N.Y. Top-ranked Cortland State will meet No. 13 Plymouth State (N.H.) in the other match. Rochester is 12-2-2, Cortland State is 17-3-2 and Plymouth State is 12-4-2.

After UCSD and St. Mary’s played to a scoreless tie through regulation play and two overtime periods, the match went to penalty kicks. UCSD converted all five of its attempts. St. Mary’s missed on its fourth attempt, giving UCSD the victory.
