Beverly Hills-based MGM/UA Communications posted a gain for the year ended Aug. 31, compared to a loss for the same period in 1985. The firm reported that the results were due primarily to the worldwide success of “Rocky IV,” “Poltergeist II: The Other Side” and “Running Scared,” as well as the foreign rentals derived from the 14th James Bond film, “A View to a Kill.”MGM/UA Communications is the direct successor of United Artists (a public company since March, 1986), which in August, 1986, acquired the motion picture production and distribution, television production, home-video and licensing operations, tradenames, logos and other related assets of MGM Entertainment from Turner Broadcasting System.
