Sinatra Expected to Have 7- to 10-Day Stay in Hospital
Frank Sinatra, 70, was back in his hospital room Monday “in good condition” and surrounded by close relatives after undergoing surgery for an inflammation of the colon, a spokesman for the Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage said.
“All his vital signs are normal, and his condition is good,” said Cliff Brown, hospital spokesman. “He will probably be in the hospital another seven to 10 days.”
Sinatra’s wife, Barbara, and daughters, Tina and Nancy, visited the entertainer in his room at the hospital, which has received telegrams and flowers from fans and friends, including President Reagan.
Sinatra’s spokesman, Lee Solters, said celebrities who have called his or Sinatra’s offices or sent cards, telegrams or flowers to the hospital included Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca, longtime pal Dean Martin, director Richard Brooks, composer-conductor Quincy Jones, film stars Cary Grant and Gregory Peck, Chicago Mayor Harold Washington, MCA Chairman Lew Wasserman and former 20th Century Fox owner Marvin Davis.
“The Reagans have been in touch with the Sinatra family to wish him well,” said White House assistant press secretary Mark Weinberg.
Sinatra entered the hospital near his home on Saturday after a severe pain forced him to cancel a nightclub engagement at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., Brown said.
On Sunday, he was in surgery for nearly two hours to correct an attack of diverticulitis, a painful inflammation of the colon.
