Man’s Attempted Suicide in France Kills 2 Others

PARIS —
An explosion resulting from a suicide attempt using cooking gas destroyed part of a six-story apartment building in a Paris suburb Monday, killing an adult and a 6-year-old child and injuring 13 people, four seriously, police said.
Officers said 23-year-old Philippe Autrut, who was seriously burned in the blast, confirmed under questioning in the hospital that he had opened the gas taps on the cooking stove in his second floor apartment, then lit a last cigarette.
