An index that measures consumer confidence in current and future business conditions fell in October, said the Conference Board, a business research group. The board’s consumer confidence index, based on a 100-point scale, fell to 88.3 in October from 92.8 in September. The index is based on a survey of 5,000 U.S. households. More than 36% of those surveyed complained that jobs were hard to get, up from 33% in September. The Conference Board said that only 14% expected jobs to increase during the next six months, down from about 17% in September.
