The World : S. Korea Seizes 16 Activists

Share

Police in Seoul, South Korea, said they have arrested 16 people, mostly former student activists, on charges of trying to set up an underground, anti-state ring aimed at “socialist revolution.” The announcement said 36 people in all have been involved in what it identified as the Anti-Imperialists’ League, with 16 rounded up and 20 being sought. The government has alleged Communist influence among dissidents, but activists contend that the accusation is an excuse to prolong the government’s hold on power.
