The University of Southern California Journalism Alumni Assn. will hold its 27th annual Distinguished Achievement Awards dinner Wednesday at the Sheraton Premiere Hotel in Universal City. Master of ceremonies will be Norman Corwin. Peter Jennings will receive the Theodore Kruglak Award. Another award will be given to political columnist David S. Broder. The Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce will hold its installation luncheon Wednesday at Sterling’s Restaurant, 8737 Fenwick St. in Sunland. The master of ceremonies will be Gil Farin, with Councilman Joel Wachs serving as installing officer. Cocktails begin at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $12.50. Elva Meline has received the first Athena Award, co-sponsored by the Mission Hills Chamber of Commerce and Eddie-Cress Oldsmobile-Mazda, honoring outstanding business or professional women in Mission Hills. Meline has been president of the San Fernando Valley Historical Society and has been resident curator of the Andres Pico Adobe since 1976.

The first William E. Hamm Outstanding Service Award, presented by California Lutheran University’s Community Leaders Club, has been given to Marilyn Holt. Recipients of the award must be members of the organization and be active in university and community activities. Holt has been instrumental in coordinating such events as the Business Management Forum, the Welcome Dinner for the Dallas Cowboys and an auction that raised $42,000 this year for academic programs.
