San Diego Roundup : Coryell to Be Honored at SDSU Finale

Fred Miller, San Diego State athletic director, announced this week that SDSU’s final game of the regular season on Nov. 29 against Brigham Young will be Don Coryell Appreciation Night. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN starting at 4:45 p.m.

Coryell’s 15-year college coaching record, including 12 at SDSU (1961-72), was 127-24-3. His 14-year professional record, including nine with the Chargers (1978-86) was 114-89-1. He is the only coach with 100 or more wins in college and professional football.

“Don Coryell has been one of the great coaches in the game of football over the past 25 years,” Miller said. “He was instrumental in putting the City of San Diego on the football map.”

More than 2,000 will compete Saturday in Southwest Bank’s “Tour de North County” at Palomar College in San Marcos.

Entrants can choose to ride either a 5-, 25-, 50- or 75-mile course. Registration is $15 for adults and $8 for children 18 and under.

Thanks for Giving is sponsoring four running events to be Saturday, Nov. 22 in Balboa Park. At 7:30 a.m., a Junior Olympics 3- and 5-kilometer cross-country run will take place, with an open 5K (7:45), a competitively judged 5K racewalk (8:30) and a B-Team invitational 5K (9:15) to follow.
