Ex-Airman Pleads Innocent to Spy Count

SAN FRANCISCO — Former Air Force Sgt. Allen Davies pleaded innocent in federal court Friday to a charge of trying to pass military secrets to the Soviet Union.
His arraignment before U.S. Magistrate F. Steele Langford followed his indictment on the espionage charge by a federal grand jury earlier in the week.
Davies, 33, of San Jose, is accused of giving an undercover FBI agent details of an Air Force reconnaissance program he had worked on during his last two years in the service.
He was discharged in 1984, and the FBI has said Davies “wanted to burn the government” for perceived mistreatment.
Davies is free on $200,000 bond and has been ordered to live with his parents in Cupertino until the case is resolved. The spy charge carries a possible life sentence.
