BERLIN GETS REGULAR

Share

“COUNT THREE AND PRAY.” Berlin. Geffen. It sounds like Berlin has been listening to a lot of Eurythmics, whose transformation from synth-pop outfit to regular rockers this Los Angeles group has somewhat paralleled. Such production touches as the Japanese flute on “You Don’t Know” sound like the kind of thing Dave Stewart would do, but there’s no trace of Eurythmics’ vision in these grooves, and singer Terri Nunn is certainly no Annie Lennox. While most of the material--conventional contempo-rock at best--aspires to nothing greater than getting played on the radio, at least it’s a step ahead of the cheesy Euro-disco sexploitation that launched the group several years ago. The one exception is the abysmal “Sex Me, Talk Me,” with its Frankie Goes to Hollywood rip-off bass riff and a story as bad as the title.
