Share

More than $200,000 in jewelry stolen from singer Keely Smith four months ago has been recovered, Palm Springs police said. Smith said she was “absolutely overjoyed” that she had recovered the jewels, which included a flawless 18-carat diamond ring of great sentimental value, Detective John Booth said. Nine other pieces of jewelry, including two rings set with diamonds and emeralds and gold necklaces and bracelets, also were picked up in a raid in Los Angeles, Booth said. Smith had estimated that the robbers who entered her desert home in July took $300,000 in jewelry from her and her brother, Norman Smith. Jeffrey Albert Benon and Robert Maxwell Apple, both 24 and from Los Angeles, were arrested and booked for investigation of the theft.
