Ruling Coalition Wins in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO —
Brazil’s ruling coalition appeared today to have made a nationwide sweep in the first congressional and gubernatorial elections since the return of civilian rule 20 months ago.
Unofficial results showed that candidates supporting President Jose Sarney apparently won all 23 state governorships and most of the congressional seats in weekend elections.
