Israelis Blast Sidon Targets : South Lebanon Raid Is 2nd in 24 Hours
Israeli helicopters fired rockets on Palestinian targets outside the port city of Sidon this afternoon in the second Israeli air raid in south Lebanon within 24 hours.
Police said the 3:40 p.m. raid 24 miles south of Beirut lasted 10 minutes, wounding four Palestinians and damaging a two-story building.
Police said the building was used by the Popular Struggle Front and was a base of Al Fatah movement--the mainstream group of Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat.
In Tel Aviv, the Israeli Defense Forces said the helicopters scored “accurate hits” on a “terrorist position” near Sidon. The helicopters hovered over the hills east of the city and fired at least 15 rockets near the Palestinian camp of Ain El Helweh as Israeli gunboats cruised offshore.
Witnesses said black smoke billowed into the sky from fires caused by exploding rockets.
It was the 15th raid this year against suspected Palestinian targets in Lebanon.
