Local News in Brief : Rain-Related Outage Cuts Power to Homes

About 1,600 homes in the North Hollywood area were temporarily without power Monday evening in what a city Department of Water and Power spokesman said was a weather-related outage.

A short circuit occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the insulation of a power line at 6629 Tujunga Ave., and to repair it, workers had to cut off power to the homes, said DWP spokesman Ed Freudenburg.

Eight hundred homes were without power for 80 minutes and 800 others were affected for only 49 minutes, Freudenburg said. The homes were near the intersection of Vineland Avenue and Vanowen Street, he said.
