More than half (54%) of those surveyed favor quarantine of AIDS patients and more than 25% would decline elective surgery if a blood transfusion were needed, according to the Gallup Poll. In the survey, conducted earlier this month for Newsweek magazine, 48% said that everyone should be tested for acquired immune deficiency syndrome and 89% said they would submit to the blood tests. Of those who backed mandatory screening, 42% said that only the patient should be told of the results, and 38% believed the findings should be reported to the government.
