Connecticut will pay $5.75 million over the next two years to settle a “comparable worth” suit brought on behalf of state clerical workers, Gov. William A. O’Neill announced. The settlement calls for pay hikes to a predominantly female group of about 5,000 clerical workers whose union claimed they were paid less for work comparable to that done by groups of employees composed mainly of men. The agreement calls for the 5,000 workers to get pay hikes in March, with about 1,800 in the lower salary groups also receiving lump sum payments of $500 each, O’Neill said.
