Heavy snow fell from the Great Lakes to Pennsylvania, while temperatures plunged to record lows in Minnesota and North Dakota. Travelers’ advisories warned of up to four inches of snow over northern Illinois, Indiana and southern Michigan, while drivers were warned of blowing and drifting snow in northeast Iowa. In Iowa, nine inches of snow fell at Dubuque, seven inches at Royal and Manchester and six inches at Waterloo and Forest City. Behind the storm system, temperatures fell below zero in the northern Plains and northern Minnesota, where the 9 degrees below zero recorded at International Falls broke a 35-year-old record by five degrees.
