El Cajon
While receiving treatment for a gunshot wound at AMI Valley Medical Center, a 36-year-old El Cajon man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Harold Fredrick Rohn while he was undergoing treatment for a shotgun wound to the face.
Richard Scavia, 28, of Spring Valley, told sheriff’s deputies Tuesday that he awoke to find two men standing in front of his bed, one of them pointing a sawed-off shotgun at him, the sheriff’s spokesman said.
When Scavia pushed the weapon away from him with his left hand, the weapon discharged, wounding his hand, the spokesman said. During an ensuing scuffle, one assailant was shot in the face, the spokesman said.
Scavia was taken to Grossmont Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his left hand.
Rohn sought treatment at Valley Medical Center and an official of the hospital notified authorities. He was taken by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center and underwent surgery Wednesday. Hospital officials said he was in good condition late Wednesday.
Detective Sgt. Don Robbins said the investigation is continuing.
