After four hours of deliberation, a jury acquitted West Virginia Atty. Gen. Charlie Brown of shaking down staffers for campaign money. Brown was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of illegally soliciting campaign contributions from his employees. Two deputy attorneys general testified that he pressured them to make $200 contributions and obtain $100 from each of their assistants. Brown insisted that he never pressured anyone, and simply gave staffers “an opportunity to give.”
