AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: The Kinks are back with a new album, “Think Visual,” due out this week on a new label, MCA Records. The record’s first single is a Dave Davies tune called “Rock ‘n’ Roll Cities,” with other cuts including a wry Ray Davies commentary, “The Video Shop,” the title cut, “Working at the Factory” and a ballad called “Lost and Found.” . . . Metallica’s new bassist is Jason Newsted, who replaces Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash earlier this fall. . . . Doctor & the Medics (who had a big hit in England with a remake of Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky”) will perform the song in the film, “Maid to Order,” which is due out next summer, co-starring Ally Sheedy, Beverly D’Angelo, Tom Skerritt and Valerie Perrine. . . . Our condolences to the Smiths’ Morrissey, who got a black eye after being pulled from the stage by fans at a recent show in Wales. . . . And Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox was injured (only slightly) when an overzealous fan hurled a bottle of champagne at her during a concert in Nuremburg, Germany. . . . Warren Zevon, best known for his hit “Werewolves of London,” has been signed to the new Virgin America record label. He’s expected to have a new album out next year. . . . And here’s our favorite ad slogan, courtesy of Nonesuch Records, the quirky label that has released new albums by Steve Reich, the World Saxophone Quartet and John Zorn, whose new album features the music of Ennio Morricone.
