Anaheim : 1,800 Are Expected at Principal’s Conference

More than 1,800 high school and elementary school principals are expected to attend a statewide conference today through Tuesday at the Anaheim Hilton and Towers.

The event is the second annual California Principals Conference for Academic Excellence in Effective Schools. Co-sponsors are UC Irvine’s Office of Relations with Schools and Colleges, the county Department of Education and the president’s office of the University of California.

Kogee Thomas, co-director of the conference, said: “The meeting will provide educators with the opportunity to interact with colleagues, share experiences and discuss programs that focus on the principal’s role in education.”

The principals will have their choices of more than 90 workshops, Thomas said.

At the conference’s Monday luncheon, University of California President David P. Gardner will deliver a major speech on “The Future of School Reform.”

During the conference’s Tuesday luncheon, Assemblywoman Teresa Hughes (D-Los Angeles), chairwoman of the Assembly Education Committee, will discuss “How the Legislature Impacts Education.”
