Woman Shoots Defendant, Court Aide
A court officer and a defendant in a criminal case were shot and wounded in a City Hall courtroom Friday and a woman suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.
Police said the shooting occurred about 10 a.m. during a criminal trial when a woman, believed to be a complainant in the case, pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the defendant, Ricky Stephenson, 30.
Stephenson was shot in the hand, and court officer Ramona Beverly, 38, was shot in the left side, police said.
The unidentified assailant was subdued by police and security officers in the courtroom and arrested.
