A San Diego man, who once was a police informant, was convicted of first-degree murder in Superior Court on Wednesday for the death of a sheriff’s cadet.

Ronnie Davis Williams, 20, was found guilty of murder by the felony rule, which states that if a robbery is committed and a murder results from that robbery, then all accomplices should be held responsible for the death.

Sheriff’s cadet Kelly Bazer, 28, a mother of two children, was shot in the back Jan. 13 by Jesse Lee Stuart after he, Williams and a third man robbed a Safeway store on 933 Sweetwater Road in Spring Valley.

After unsuccessfully trying to steal a pickup truck from the store’s parking lot, the three fled from the parking lot on foot, dropping cash along the way. A few minutes later, two of them confronted Bazer, who refused to relinquish her car keys. As she ran from the men, Stuart shot her in the back.

Stuart has been convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 35 years to life.

The trial of Prentice Byrd, 19, believed to be the third man in the holdup, is pending.
