‘TOP GUN’ BOOSTS DUTCH AIR FORCE ENLISTMENTS
The Dutch air force is enjoying a wave of applications by Dutchmen hoping to join up after watching the action-packed high-tech jet fighter movie “Top Gun,” a Defense Ministry spokeswoman has reported.
The movie, starring Tom Cruise as a brash but brilliant trainee fighter pilot, has triggered hundreds of extra requests for information in recent months in response to air force publicity timed to coincide with the film, she said.
Since its end-of-July premiere here, “Top Gun” has been viewed by about 700,000 people, already making it one of the most popular films this year, a spokesman for the distributors said.
