20-Foot Fir Picked as White House Tree

A 20-foot Noble fir destined to light up the Blue Room of the White House at Christmas will be cut today from the front yard of a couple who called it “quite an honor” to give up their tree for the First Family.

The tree, which graces the front yard of Bob and Babe Frazier, will be flown to the nation’s capital Monday.

The fir was picked as the White House Christmas tree by tree farmers Ron and Dorothy Palmer. The Palmers and their partners, Charley and Dottie Burton, won the right to pick a tree for the White House when one of their own trees took first place in the National Christmas Tree contest.

However, none of their trees was big enough to stretch up to the high ceilings of the White House.

The Palmers bought the Fraziers’ tree for $110 and agreed to replace it with a smaller one from their tree farm.
