Argentina’s Supreme Court has ruled that divorce and remarriage is a constitutional right in the mostly Roman Catholic nation, one of the few nations in the world where divorce is banned. In a 3-to-2 vote, the high court struck down as unconstitutional a law that allowed couples to legally separate but barred them from remarrying. Legal sources said that as a result of the ruling, persons wishing to remarry would have to go before the courts to be declared eligible unless congress passes divorce legislation. Argentina’s House of Deputies in April passed a divorce bill, but the Senate delayed final approval.
