Fullerton : City to Launch $800,000 Museum Renovation

Share

The historic Museum Center is due for a face lift, and the city plans to launch the renovation with a ceremony Dec. 16.

Workers will be installing new heating and air conditioning, upgrading the electrical system and adding new track lighting and a security system as part of an $800,000 renovation project approved by the City Council.

The city also plans to construct a new movable wall system in the gallery to accommodate varying sizes and contents of exhibits. Officials hope the changes will attract major traveling exhibitions to the Spanish Colonial-style building that houses the museum.

“We’re really excited about the project,” said David Walkington, president of the Museum Center Assn. “With completion of the renovation, the museum will take its place as a major cultural and educational facility not only in Fullerton, but in all of Orange County.”

The ceremony to launch the renovations will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 at the museum, 301 N. Pomona Ave. Work is expected to be completed by January, 1988, said Ron Hagan, the city’s community services director.
