Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee A. Iacocca demonstrates his broad popular appeal as a potential 1988 Democratic presidential candidate by leading Vice President George Bush, the Republican front-runner, 47% to 41%, a new Gallup Poll test election found. Iacocca now runs a better race against Bush than does either Sen. Gary Hart of Colorado or Gov. Mario M. Cuomo of New York. Bush and Hart are in a virtual tie, while Bush holds a 51% to 37% lead over Cuomo. Although Iacocca has denied interest in the Democratic nomination, his supporters are urging him to make a run for it.
