R.H. Estates : 2 Intersections Upgraded

Share

Traffic controls at two major intersections in the city are being improved in a $45,000 program that is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The locations--Palos Verdes Drive North and Hawthorne Boulevard, and the junction of Palos Verdes drives North and East--are among the busiest on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and officials said improvements are intended to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow. A state grant is paying for 90% of the work and the remaining 10% is coming from city funds.

Traffic-signal sensing devices, which permit adjustment in signal timing based on the amount of traffic, are being installed at both intersections. “This should make the flow of traffic snappier,” said City Manager Ray Taylor.

Additional work is being done at the Palos Verdes Drive North-Hawthorne Boulevard intersection, including relocating signal poles and realigning traffic lanes. Work is not being done during peak traffic hours, Taylor said.
