The World : No Extradition, Israeli Free

Share

Justice Minister Avraham Sharir announced that Israel will not allow the extradition of William Nakash, a 25-year-old Jew convicted in absentia and sentenced to life imprisonment in France for murdering an Arab. Sharir’s decision leaves Nakash, who emigrated to Israel in 1983 and acquired Israeli citizenship under the Jewish state’s “Law of Return,” a free man. He has been held in an Israeli prison since the extradition request from France arrived about seven months ago. Nakash’s supporters have claimed the killing was a political act and that his life would be endangered if he were held with Arab prisoners in France.
