THE CANADIAN CONNECTION

U.S. film and television producers will end up spending $200 million (U.S.) in Canada in 1986, according to Telefilm Canada, the government agency that invests in indigenous Canadian productions.

In Toronto alone, film location permits have doubled since 1983, to a projected 2,000 by year’s end.

Much of the upswing in Canadian filming has been fueled by an increase in U.S. made-for-TV movies and, an even more recent phenomenon, TV series shot outside of Hollywood. Roughly one-quarter of all U.S. prime-time made-for-TV movies now are shot in Canada.

Among the recently released movies made all or partially in Canada are “The Fly,” “Rocky IV,” “The Killing Fields,” “Agnes of God,” “Children of a Lesser God,” “Iceman” and “Eleni.” The following is the complete list of American film and TV projects based in Canada in 1986.
