Aeroflot Workers Accused of Stealing Airport Water Taps

MOSCOW —
Theft of state property is so widespread in the Soviet Union that employees of the airline Aeroflot are stealing taps from washrooms at Moscow’s main international airport, the official weekly Nedelya said Friday.
“It is difficult to imagine that diplomats going abroad are discreetly putting them in their famous attache cases,” the weekly observed.
“Somebody from the local staff, from the Aeroflot personnel in their dark blue uniforms, is unscrewing the large, elegant taps and taking them away. . . . “
