Deputy Held for Allegedly Smuggling ‘Pot’
A 22-year-old Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was arrested by sheriff’s narcotics officers Friday afternoon for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho’s maximum-security facility at Castaic, a department spokesman said.
Ivan Rivera, who was assigned to the facility, was booked at Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of bringing narcotics into a jail facility and possession with intent to distribute.
Sheriff’s Information Bureau Deputy Sam Jones said Rivera, who lives in Hawthorne and had been with the department a year Thursday, was relieved of duty pending the filing of formal charges. Bail was set at $5,000.
Jones said narcotics officers, acting on confidential information, found 25 grams of marijuana in his car.
