The Nation - News from Dec. 8, 1986

An attempt to transport a beached pilot whale to a Boston aquarium failed when the half-ton mammal had to be destroyed, but three others in a holding tank were showing signs of improvement. The death brought to 28 the number of whales known to have died after more than 50 whales stranded themselves along Cape Cod beaches. Rescuers pushed 27 of the whales back into the ocean. The whale was found alive at Chipman Cove, but its condition deteriorated on the truck ride to New England Aquarium, where three other rescued whales were improving.
