Bruce Snyder, backfield coach for the Rams, will be named head coach at the University of California today, the San Jose Mercury News reported in its Monday editions.

California Athletic Director Dave Maggard declined to comment on the story other than to say a new coach will be named today.

Snyder, reached prior to the Rams’ game against the Dallas Cowboys, refused to say whether he had been offered the job.

He did say, however, “I think it looks pretty good. We talked yesterday (Saturday) at length, but this morning we got into more of the specifics about the job.”

Snyder, 46, would replace Joe Kapp, fired by Maggard on Nov. 5 after five seasons.
