Classes Smoked Out by Smoldering Tires

MULLICA TOWNSHIP, N.J. —
A junkyard fire smoldered amid millions of tires for a third day Monday, and an elementary school nearby was closed because of the acrid smoke.
The smoke was so heavy for a time Sunday that authorities asked about 4,000 residents of the area to stay indoors, and an adjacent highway was closed for most of the day.
