Compton : College Gets $100,000 Gift
Compton Community College received a $100,000 gift--the largest private donation in at least a decade--from retired businessmen Eliott Handler and Seymour Green.
Partners for 26 years in a local truck manufacturing firm, the businessmen recently obtained the money through the sale of their former manufacturing site, off Rosecrans Avenue. The two had previously expressed a desire to assist local educational efforts, college spokesman Charles Cropsey said.
College President Edison O. Jackson has not decided how the contribution will be used, Cropsey added. But among other expenses, the two-year school has several large debts and faculty members are negotiating for higher salaries.
