Mental Health Hot Line Available
A new toll-free, mental health hot line is now available to assist callers with emotional or substance abuse problems. The hot line can be reached from every state by dialing 1-800-422-4PMG (PMG stands for Professional Mental Health Group, the organization coordinating the hot line.) Callers will be able to speak with licensed psychiatric nurses, social workers, clinical psychologists or psychiatrists, according to their needs.
In addition to providing callers with crisis counseling, the 7-day-a-week, 24-hour hot line will serve as a referral service for follow-up care and resources within the community.
Dr. Noel Lustig, a medical director with the group, says, “It takes a great deal of courage for people to admit they need help--to make that phone call--but that phone call is the first step to improvement.”
PMG is a group of mental health professionals throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The therapists, who are affiliated with a number of local hospitals, have experience and training in counseling adolescents and adults with emotional, family or substance abuse problems.
