The World : 2 Barcelona Firms Bombed
Suspected Basque separatists bombed two French-owned businesses in downtown Barcelona, Spain, injuring 19 people and setting a building on fire, authorities said. While no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, they bore the hallmarks of the Basque separatist group ETA (Basque Homeland and Freedom), which seeks a separate state in northern Spain. ETA has stepped up bombings of French-owned businesses in Spain in response to a French crackdown against Spanish Basque activist exiles in southwestern France.
