Fourth-grader Michael Hilchey watched a taped television special about the evils of drugs and, after talking it over with his father, decided that police should be notified that his mother and stepfather had been smoking marijuana. Officers obtained a search warrant and went to the couple’s Claremont home, where they seized one pound, 3 1/2 ounces of marijuana with a street value of $750, police said. Michael’s mother, Melinda Duran, 31, and stepfather, Joseph Duran, 34, were arrested and later released after being cited for possession of more than an ounce of marijuana. Michael’s father, David Hilchey of Harbor City, said he has been trying to gain custody of his 10-year-old son for years and would seek a new motion awarding him permanent custody.
